HAPPY BIRTHDAY DR. SEUSS!!
It's Dr. Seuss's Birthday this week!! We decided to read a bunch, learn from the lessons he is trying to teach (BOY are those some deep thoughts...but O'h so true!!) and do some fun crafts and games!
We read The Lorax. We talked about how important trees are to us, animals, and how they were important in the book. Again...I love painting in different ways!! This time we painted using pom poms.
I had them paint all over the page. Make sure they try their hardest to make full circles. There were times I asked them to go over the spots again. Great listening skills in full effect!!
O'h The Places You'll Go!! We read the story and talked about how you can do and be whatever you want. You can visit places, you can explore, you can do anything if you put the work into it. They colored and cut the hot air balloon.
Oh how we love Green Eggs and Ham!! I introduced "little letters" for the first time (I have in the past but not in a lesson). I made these green eggs and had them match the "big" letter to the "little" letter. This was a struggle, but we are just starting.
I didn't do the entire alphabet. I stayed away from the letters that look exact, like the letter C, L,M,N,O,S, U, and V. I think I will add them to give them a couple easier ones since this seem to be harder for them.

What's a week of Dr. Seuss without reading The Cat In The Hat?? We talked about patterns and made sure we stuck to his hat pattern!! Also practiced coloring in the lines.
And, like always, Rhyming goes hand and hand with Dr. Seuss. We did this great activity that I got from Pinterest!

Preschool Dino Fun!
Day Two of our Dinosaur fun!!!
This project is my new FAVORITE!!! Magic Painting! I colored dinosaur bones on white paper with a white crayon. The kids then painting using homemade watercolor paints. BOOM! A fossil print appears!!
The next thing we did was color and cut a dino puzzle. Then they pasted it together. To make it go along with number recognition, I added numbers to the puzzle pieces.
Along with playing in the sand making fossils and dino foot prints we also decided to try making them in playdoh.
Showing this with playdoh really helped them understand what a fossil is..the impression of an object.

Preschool Dino Fun!
Day One of dinosaur fun!!
We talked about dinosaurs. How they lived, what they ate, how they protected themselves, all the different types and sizes of dinosaurs, how they once lived on earth but now are extinct. We read stories, we played with dinosaurs in sand, we listen to songs, etc. I always look on youtube for kids music videos to go along with my theme. Also, a great place to get books is through the links online at your local libraries website. My favorite is called hoopla. It's an app. There's books, movies, songs, etc. And you just rent them just like at your library.

Preschool Valentine's Day
I LOVE kid questionnaires!!! This was a cute one I found on pinterest. The craft is a cute and easy little Valentine. They can either cut or rip the pieces and glue them in, making a heart.
A Month of Nursery Rhymes.
Remember, we only have preschool twice a week, and during these lessons there were snow days and days off. This lesson can easily be added to just by looking up more ideas.
The first is Humpty Dumpty. This craft was a little hard for them to do on their own. They decorated the pieces, then cut them out (some needed help, others did not) and put the pieces together ( this is the hard part). Then once they are placed together they get to bandage them up using bandaids, they LOVED this part!! What kid doesn't like using bandaids??
Baa Baa Black Sheep. Now this one was a pinterest fail. The idea was to add some black paint to watery soap and blow bubbles on the paper to make a bubble furry look to the sheep. This didn't work for us...so instead we used the solution and blew the paint over the paper. Still fun, still different, still worked out for the most part.
Ahhh...Oldie and a favorite to all kids. They find this one the silliest of them all. There Was An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Fly. I read them both the older version and the newer one. One ends with her dying and the other does not. I personally like the newer version, but figured we would do both and see. Honestly...they didn't even take notice of her dying...they were so entertained by what she was eating!!
So we colored all the pieces and then cut out her belly. I then took a sandwich bag and taped it to the old ladies back. Then to make it stronger, I had them glue a piece of construction paper to it, leaving a gap for them to be able to get the animals out of her "tummy".
Hickory Dickory Dock. Fun craft using shapes. They had to listen to direction to put this craft together.
The 3 Little Pigs. They had to built the houses, then add all the ways the 3 pigs made their house.
Did You Know The Muffin Man. They all decorated and cut out their own muffins. I regret not having glitter to spice these up...but they enjoyed the craft.
The Itsy Bitsy Spider. SO CUTE!! They colored and cut out the house. Then took 3 small pipe cleaners and wrapped them around a straw (the spout) to make a spider. Then we taped the "spout" on the house. They are able to move the spider up and down the spout as they sing the song.
Winter Animal fun!
We continued our winter theme and talked about winter animals. We also talked about the Arctic and igloos.
The penguin is made using mirror painting. The children painted one side black then folded it over and pressed making the same image on the opposite side. Add eyes, nose, and feet...what a cutie!!
The igloo is a fun craft that allows them to practice cutting. I cut stripes and then they cut the squares.

Preschool Reindeer Craft
Along with our christmas gifts we made our parents (yes, I forgot to take a picture...sorry) we did this craft. The kids had their doubts that this was actually going to look like a reindeer, but loved the way they turned out! Using brown tissue paper, brown hand cutouts, google eyes, red nose, and a paper plate. What a cute and easy project.
Winter Wonderland! Preschool winter craft
Today we did a fun craft. We talked about weather, making snowmen, catching snowflakes with our tongues.
